What to Expect at Adult Ed Day

Our second annual Adult Education Day is one week away!

What to expect on Wednesday, Feb. 15th, Adult Education Day at the Statehouse.

IAACE is thrilled to partner with the Department of Workforce Development (DWD) and the local programs across the state to offer this day of celebration of the impact Adult Education has on the communities across our state. The welcome reception with Dessert and Coffee will begin at 11:30 am ET. Attendees are encouraged to network and connect with elected officials. There will be some assigned seating for the essay winners and honorable mentions, as well as the business partners that will be recognized.

Mike Thombleson, IAACE President, will open the program. Marilyn Pitzulo, Associate Chief of Workforce Strategy and Design, will speak on Adult Education accomplishments and introduce our guest speaker, Whitney Ertel, Executive Director for Governor’s Workforce Cabinet, who will share the cabinet’s vision for Indiana Adult Education. Representative Michelle Davis will then speak on Legislative Priorities. Jennifer Wigginton, IAACE Executive Director, will guide the programming from here, with Rob Moore announcing the Business Partner Recognitions. Konnie McCollum and Christy McIntyre-Gray, with assistance from Mallory Balch, will recognize our Essay winners. With Assistance from Marilyn, Jennifer will recognize the COABE Legislative Champions, including Senator Todd Young, Mayor Joe Hogsett, Representative Michelle Davis and Senator John Crane. Representative Renee Pack will offer closing reflections on the adult education work.  Jennifer will close with directions for those that will be attending the State House Tour that starts at 1:00 pm and the director’s meeting that starts at 1:30 pm.

Everyone that attends the State House tour will return to the North Atrium after the tour. If your group needs assistance, please reach out to Jennifer.

Where should you enter the Indiana State House?

All State House visitors are required to use one of the two public entrances. The upper-level east entrance, near Capitol Ave. and Market St., and the lower-level west entrance (ADA compliant) are accessible via the Robert D. Orr Plaza. These entrances will be equipped with metal detectors and screening devices that Indiana State Police Capitol Police will monitor. Those with pacemakers, defibrillators, or other medical devices must first notify the Indiana State Police Capitol Police officers staffing the entrance. A search will be conducted with a hand-held metal detector. Please note that no one may carry, either openly or concealed, firearms or other dangerous weapons.

Capitol Ave. Lot (210 N. Capitol Ave.)

Washington Ave. Parking Facility (401 Washington Ave.)

What should you wear?

Business Attire, no jeans. Wear comfortable shoes that you can walk distances in, you will do a lot of walking.

Should I respond that I am attending? (RSVP)

Yes! We don’t have unlimited seating! It will be very beneficial to know how many are coming if we need to adjust seating. One person from each organization can respond to the attendance at //iaace.com/adult-education-day/. Note the ‘number attending’ is the total attendance from the organization.
