Calling All Adult Ed Students and Program Leaders!

The National COABE Conference is right around the corner. This year, we are incredibly lucky to have the COABE National Conference right in our own backyard in downtown Indianapolis! While many educators around the state have already registered to attend (thank you!), we need more students!

Each COABE Conference has a special track and sessions called the “Student as Leaders Summit” Because the summit is local, we have a unique advantage to provide an amazing learning and leadership development opportunity for our students without the usual hurdles of cross-country travel.

The past few years, Wayne Township Adult Education (WTAE) has prioritized taking students to this conference, and the feedback is always the same: the event is life-changing. Our students always share how impactful the experience is. Not only do they get a chance to learn from national experts, but they also hear directly from their peers. They share stories about their life journeys, what brought them to Adult Ed, and their unique challenges and triumphs.

The Leadership Summit  is a day of reflection, celebration, and empowerment. Beyond the inspiration, this is a GREAT thing for students to write on a resume or share during interviews. At WTAE, we have actually employed many of our own Student Ambassadors who have attended the event; the professional and personal development is truly amazing! Registration for the Students as Leaders Summit is FREE for adult learners. While programs or students would just need to cover transportation and/or lodging, the powerful sessions, networking, and advocacy training are accessible to all at no registration cost. This year has been GREAT for Hoosiers in so many ways. Let’s not forget the unbelievable season our IU Football team just had!  We want to continue to show the nation how things are done in our little “crossroad” state! We know from AE Day at the Statehouse that Indiana is a leader in Adult Education…it’s time to ensure everyone else knows it too. 

To do that, we are challenging every Indiana program to strive to bring just five percent of their student body to the Summit! Don’t forget to look beyond your current classrooms; alumni who have graduated within the last five years are eligible and make incredible candidates for this leadership opportunity. Let’s fill the room with Hoosier excellence and show the country the power of Indiana Adult Education!
