Embrace the Word Follow Up
Looking back on 2024, I’m grateful for how my chosen word, Connect, shaped the year. It became more than just a guiding principle—it became a lens through which I experienced growth, deepened relationships, and embraced purpose. This reflection brings me back to December 2023, when I wrote about the power of choosing a word of the year instead of a resolution list in my blog, Embrace the Word. At that moment, “Connect” stood out as the perfect word to guide me, and it proved to be transformative in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
Reflections on Connecting with Friends and Family
2024 reminded me of the power of relationships. In the hustle of life, I had often let friendships and family connections drift to the margins, but my focus on connection inspired me to reach out and prioritize those bonds. Whether it was heartfelt conversations with friends, gathering for family dinners, sharing laughter, or simply being present in the small moments, these experiences grounded me and brought immense joy.
These moments of connection weren’t just about catching up—they were about truly seeing and being seen. By giving my full attention to the people I care about, I was strengthening bonds and enriching my sense of belonging and fulfillment. I’m particularly grateful for the ways I was able to show up for others—listening more deeply, offering support generously, and celebrating the successes of those I love. These experiences enriched my relationships and filled my heart with gratitude.
Strengthening Connections in My Role as Executive Director
Professionally, 2024 was a year of bridge-building. As an Executive Director, I leaned into connecting with my board, members, and stakeholders. This focus led to meaningful collaborations and the alignment that drives real impact.
Through open conversations, active listening, and shared celebrations, I saw firsthand how connection fuels progress. It also reinforced a lesson I’ll carry forward: leadership isn’t just about the plan—it’s about people. The important things to me are building relationships, fostering a positive culture, adapting, and communicating.
Personal Growth Through Connection
Growth often comes from within, and 2024 was no exception. Choosing “Connect” encouraged me to engage deeply with myself. I made time for self-reflection, embraced opportunities to learn, and allowed myself to step outside of my comfort zone.
In connecting with my inner self, I discovered new strengths and uncovered areas for improvement. This journey wasn’t always easy, but it was profoundly rewarding.
Carrying Connection Forward
As I close the chapter on 2024, I see how “Connect” has laid a strong foundation for the future. The relationships I nurtured, the growth I experienced, and the purpose I found through connection have all prepared me for what’s ahead in 2025.
Looking back to my blog, Embrace the Word, I’m reminded of the wisdom in choosing a guiding word to shape the year. “Connect” didn’t just influence my actions; it transformed my perspective. It helped me be more mindful. As 2025 approaches, I want to build on the lessons and joys of 2024, ready to continue embracing the word instead of resolutions. Therefore, my 2025 word is Flourish. I will celebrate the growth sparked by connections and embrace opportunities to thrive and bloom in all areas of my life.
