IAACE Election Guidelines

The Indiana Association for Adult and Continuing Education (IAACE) is committed to a transparent, fair, and inclusive election process. These guidelines outline the procedures for nominations, voting, and results announcement following IAACE’s bylaws.

1. Nomination Process

  • The President appoints a Nomination and Election Committee at least four months before the annual meeting, subject to board approval.
  • The committee consists of at least three IAACE members in good standing. Committee members cannot be candidates.
  • A Call for Nominations is sent to all active members at least 90 days before the annual meeting.
  • Nomination forms must be submitted within 15 days of the call.
  • The committee verifies candidate eligibility and willingness to serve.
  • A final slate of candidates is determined at least 45 days before the annual meeting, including at least two candidates for the Board of Directors, with at least one more candidate than the number of openings.

2. Voting Procedures

  • A ballot containing candidate names, descriptions, and a write-in option is sent at least 30 days before the annual meeting.
  • Voting is conducted electronically via a website form that members must sign for
  • Members must submit their ballots within 15 days of distribution.
  • The Nomination and Election Committee is responsible for verifying the validity of all ballots.

3. Counting & Results

  • Candidates with the highest number of votes (plurality) are elected.
  • The committee confirms election results and announces them first to candidates, followed by the full membership at the annual meeting.
  • The Board of Directors shall be limited to two (2) representatives from any one (1) program, organization, institution, or entity. Suppose more than two program, organization, institution, or entity members are slated for election. In that case, the top two individuals receiving the most votes can be seated as members of the Board of Directors.

4. Election Integrity

  • IAACE ensures a secure and fair election by maintaining accurate member lists and secure voting methods.
  • Disputes are reviewed by the Nomination and Election Committee following IAACE policies.

By participating in the election process, IAACE members help shape the future of adult education in Indiana.
