“I FELL OFF AN 80-FOOT CLIFF IN COLLEGE, AND THAT HINGE MOMENT MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE.”
It caused a lot of pain physically and emotionally, but it connected who I was with who I would become from that event. Sport Psychology was discovered, and if you want the whole background of why I entered the field, check out the story of how an Olympic Gold Medalist and I shared a Hinge Moment.
Here’s some more upbeat, positive background fodder about me:
- I was the mental coach for multiple winners on the PGA Tour, Indy Eleven, and the University of Notre Dame
- I worked with medalists at the Olympics.
- I was the sport psychology coach for the 2013 USTA National Champion
- I have also caddied over 20+ events on the PGA Tour
- Written eight (8) books on Mental Toughness and have an awesome sport psychology podcast- The Mental Toughness Podcast With Dr. Rob Bell

NO ONE Gets There ALONE: The Hinge of Mental Toughness
Every educator and student will face a defining “hinge moment”—a decision, event, or challenge that changes everything. The question is: will they be ready?
This presentation equips educators with practical strategies to build resilience and mental toughness, both for themselves and their students. Drawing from years of work with athletes, leaders, and organizations,
Dr. Rob Bell shares powerful stories and actionable tools to help transform setbacks into comebacks. Attendees will learn how to navigate stress, model perseverance, and create environments where students thrive through adversity.
The focus is not on chasing success but on developing the process that leads to significance. By reframing obstacles as opportunities, educators will leave this session empowered to guide students toward confidence, resilience, and the readiness to embrace their own hinge moments
