Fit at Forty, Forging the Future (to be Fab at Fifty!)

Handout

Hopefully, it’s been a great conference for you, and you’ve had the chance to hear from some experts who helped you deal with some of the “nuts & bolts” stuff you need to address as an adult educator.  Now let’s take a few moments before you return home to attend to a few of your needs, to take care of you, so you can be even more successful when you return to work.  You can’t help anyone else unless you take care of yourself first.  You also can’t wait for anyone else to do the hard work for you.  So, in addition to all the great “Ah-Hahs” and info you’ve collected here, let’s make sure you get a little “tune-up” too so that you are “Fit at 40” and improve your chances you’ll be “Fab at 50!”

Three concurrent workshops are to be offered on Thursday, including:

Playing Nice in the Sandbox (2-parts)

Handout

You can’t change anyone else or control a lot of what happens at work, so the best you can do is: Do your best and have a positive influence on others around you. This workshop helps you learn about the many style differences you encounter every day, as well as your own communication styles and how to flex your style to make style differences more manageable. We also review many other teambuilding and relationship skills to help your team improve teamwork and customer service, keep your sandbox a great place to work, and serve your learners.

People Don’t Leave Jobs; They Leave Bosses

Handout

Turnover and recruitment is expensive, so Retention is important!  After reviewing an inventory that can complete later to help you identify some of your own leadership styles and traits, this workshop reviews many “best practices” to help leaders reflect on their own leadership style and identify ways to improve and expand their skills to keep your best and brightest, and see ways NOT to be the boss who drives the best and brightest employees out the door to work for someone else!

How to Thrive in a Radically Changing World

Handout

Change is certain, and being able to manage your transitions when change happens is becoming an increasingly important life skill, not to mention in the workplace. This workshop helps remind teams about the dynamics of change and why it can be unsettling at times, and more importantly — we review ways to reframe the situation so that in addition to seeing what is changed or gone, you also see opportunity and possibility, and hopefully — better.
