Reflection, Transition and a Vision

May equals graduation season and Memorial Day weekend—two good times for reflection. The Oxford Dictionary defines reflection as “serious thought or consideration.”
The Reflections for the graduation season are often about what is next for the graduate, finding their purpose, following their passion, and never stopping learning.
The Reflections for Memorial Day are often on the military lives we have lost while they were defending our country.
The connection between the two I’ll leave for you to ponder.

We should reflect regularly; your regular may be different from mine. My daily thought assists me in being kind, remembering to be good, and to treat others how I want to be treated. These are my Vision of how to do my job. My development as a leader for this organization depends on my reflection, and I rely on it.
As we end our fiscal year, reflection on our achievements and successes is essential to our organization, not only for me to do but for our board and our members. We depend on your thoughts and considerations to move our organization forward and to keep evolving. The board transitions at the end of June. I have mentioned the meeting more than once, but if this is your first time hearing it, the transition meeting is about the board members leaving to reflect on their service and pass on wisdom. It is a time for new board members to learn about their service and to determine goals and objectives. We are also beginning a strategic plan; a definition is a process to reflect on our future Vision and identify the organization’s goals and objectives. Sound familiar? The transition meeting is a great time to begin the process, but as with any process, it is not a one-day activity; gathering members’ reflections and ideas for our goals and objections is vital.
The first step is to define our Vision. Our current Vision is “We cultivate leaders who advance adult education for stronger communities in Indiana.” Will you be a part of the process? Please help by completing this survey on our Vision. Click here.
