January IAACE Giveaway Winner!
Congratulations to Courtney, who won the $100 gift card giveaway in January!
Courtney was kind enough to share a photo and responses to a few questions so we could take this opportunity to highlight a member of the IAACE community and help us continue to get to know each other!
Courtney: This is a picture of me in DC! It was taken when Jennifer Wigginton (my executive director) and I went to USCAL.
IAACE: What is your involvement/ history with adult education?
Courtney: I am the education coordinator at The Literacy Center. I have had the pleasure of working here for about 1 1/2 years. I don’t have a background in education, but it, along with an immense passion to help lift others up, is something I hold very dear. If you would have asked me 10 years ago what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, I would have told you that I don’t care, as long as I am working to make the world a better place, and that is exactly what I do!
IAACE: What is one favorite memory or experience in adult education?
Courtney: Everyday, I swell with pride. I’m very proud of our organization, our students, and our volunteers. However, when I was fortunate enough to see Darrell Murray (a student of ours) accept ProLiteracy’s Student of the Year award in Washington DC probably is one of the most memorable! Actually, every moment of being in DC with Darrell and Jenn was amazing. I was able to witness Darrell learning so many new things, like taking the Metro and learning from exhibits at the Smithsonian. He even got a Library of Congress library card!!
IAACE: What is your favorite IAACE resource?
Courtney: IAACE has so many resources to help me be better for our students, so to pick just one is difficult. Although, I really enjoy the annual conference. Last year, in French Lick, I came back with renewed passion and excitement, and so much new knowledge to share with volunteers and students! I’m super excited for this year’s conference!
IAACE: Thanks again, Courtney!
P.S. Stay tuned – A new opportunity to win and connect with IAACE is coming soon!
